What Is the GRE?
Verbal Reasoning
GRE Verbal Reasoning measures the ability to understand complex texts, analyze meaning, draw conclusions, and understand relationships between words and ideas.
Quantitative Reasoning
GRE Quantitative Reasoning measures basic mathematical skills, quantitative reasoning, data interpretation, and problem-solving using arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
Analytical Writing
GRE Analytical Writing measures the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, support a position with reasons and examples, and write in a focused, organized way.
Graduate Application Readiness
GRE preparation should be connected to your target programs, application deadlines, score expectations, and overall graduate admission strategy.
GRE General Test Structure & Scoring
Understand the current GRE format before you build your preparation plan.
The GRE General Test is computer-delivered and takes about 1 hour and 58 minutes. It includes Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Analytical Writing always appears first, while Verbal and Quantitative sections may appear in any order after that.
The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures are section-level adaptive, meaning performance on the first section affects the difficulty level of the second section.

| Measure | Format | Time | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analytical Writing | 1 “Analyze an Issue” task | 30 minutes | 0–6 |
| Verbal Reasoning | 2 sections, 12 questions + 15 questions | 18 minutes + 23 minutes | 130–170 |
| Quantitative Reasoning | 2 sections, 12 questions + 15 questions | 21 minutes + 26 minutes | 130–170 |

- Score: 0–6
Verbal Reasoning

- Time: 21 minutes + 26 minutes
- Score: 130 - 170
Why Structured GRE Prep Matters
Build Test Familiarity
Students become more comfortable with GRE timing, question types, section structure, and test-day decision-making.
Strengthen Reasoning Skills
GRE questions test more than memorization. Students need to build verbal, quantitative, and analytical reasoning skills.
Improve Time Management
A strong GRE strategy helps students decide when to solve, skip, estimate, review, or move on.
Prepare with an Application Plan
GRE preparation should be aligned with target programs, score expectations, scholarship deadlines, and application submission timelines.
What eSTEP GRE Prep Covers
A structured preparation program designed to strengthen GRE skills and support graduate application readiness.
GRE Diagnostic Review
We begin by reviewing the student’s current GRE readiness and identifying gaps across Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. This helps build a preparation plan based on real needs.
Verbal Reasoning Strategy
Students work on reading comprehension, text completion, sentence equivalence, vocabulary strategy, and passage analysis. The goal is to improve accuracy, comprehension, and decision-making under time pressure.
Quantitative Reasoning Foundation
Students strengthen core math concepts in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. We focus on both concept clarity and efficient problem-solving.
Analytical Writing Coaching
Students learn how to structure the Issue essay, build clear arguments, support ideas with relevant examples, and write in a focused academic style.
Timed Practice & Test Strategy
Students practice under realistic timing conditions to improve pacing, question prioritization, and test-day confidence.
Progress Review & Score Planning
Practice is reviewed strategically so students can identify mistake patterns, track progress, and adjust their preparation before the test date.
