eSTEP

On a drizzly Jakarta evening, eSTEP Global Resources rolled out a very special “Exclusive Dinner with Top U.S. Universities,” on Friday, April 11th, 2025, proving that even pouring rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of Indonesian students eager to connected and get information on how to secure their LOA to the U.S. Held inside the TopGolf Jakarta restaurant on the 2nd floor, the event brought together five esteemed institutions, for an intimate night of insight, inspiration, and connection;
1. Columbia University – School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA),
2. Georgetown University – School for Foreign Services (SFS),
3. University of Rochester,
4. Dallas Baptist University (DBU), and
5. Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)

The evening kicked off at 6:30 pm, as 39 determined attendees (out of 59 pre‑registrations) braved the downpour to collect their name tags and welcome drinks. Against the cozy backdrop of TopGolf’s indoor dining area, guests swapped umbrellas and smiles, proving that passion for higher education trumps any Jakarta monsoon.

Co‑hosted by Mata Garuda LPDP and the TOEFL Lounge by IIEF, the night began with opening remarks from eSTEP’s Co‑Founder & CEO, Mr. Karl Keuroghlian. With gratitude for everyone’s enthusiasm despite the weather, Karl set the tone: “Tonight isn’t just about programs and brochures—it’s about bringing U.S. universities closer to you, in a setting where you can ask your questions freely and build real connections.”

After a brief introduction to eSTEP’s mission and an overview of TOEFL Test by Mr. Hasan (IIEF), the university representatives took center stage for concise presentations:

  • Columbia SIPA: Mr. Isaac D. Moore shared how SIPA’s blend of rigorous academics and practical policy labs prepares graduates to tackle global challenges.
  • Dallas Baptist University (DBU): Mr. Roni highlighted DBU’s supportive campus culture and programs at DBU.
  • Georgetown SFS: Ms. Anna Maria Jesica unveiled SFS’s storied network of diplomats and alumni, and its Asia Pacific outreach for future global leaders.
  • University of Rochester: Ms. Emily Phuong emphasized Rochester’s cutting‑edge research facilities and interdisciplinary programs in science and the arts.
  • RIT: Although the RIT representative was unable to join—either in person or virtually—Mr. Karl assured guests that he would be happy to answer any questions about RIT’s tech‑focused curriculum and co‑op experiences throughout the evening.

Each presentation was peppered with personal anecdotes, like SIPA students designing real‑world policy pilots in New York City, or DBU alumni launching social enterprises back home—painting vivid pictures of life on campus.

By 8:15 pm, tables were set with Indonesian‑inspired hors d’oeuvres and American classics, and attendees naturally drifted toward the universities they’d just heard about. Under warm string lights inside the restaurant, students grilled reps on everything from application deadlines to favorite local hangouts, while eSTEP consultants offered on‑the‑spot essay reviews and study‑plan consultations. The TOEFL Lounge table buzzed with tips on test‑taking strategies, ensuring no question about language requirements went unanswered.

As the evening wound down, closing remarks celebrated not only the knowledge shared but the relationships forged. A quick group photo—umbrellas still in hand at the entrance—captured the night’s camaraderie. eSTEP goal is simple: to bridge the gap between Indonesian ambition and global opportunity. That night was just the beginning.
